Better Hope goldsmith robbed at gunpoint

 By Anupa

Police are hunting two bandits who held up a goldsmith and robbed him of $200,000 in gold jewellery.
Basdeo Somwaroo, 39 of Better Hope, East Coast Demerara, was a customer at a liquor restaurant when he was relieved of a gold chain and gold band around 21:30 hours on Tuesday night.

According to reports, the two bandits had earlier entered the shop and enquired about phone cards. They then left.
They probably identified their target because they returned about an hour later and carried out their act.
As they were leaving they discharged a round into the air to ward off any attempt to pursue them.

The matter was reported to the Sparendaam Police Station and a description of the men was given.
