Mechanic executed in Eccles house

- police break door, find bullet-riddled body wrapped in blanket

The body of a 24-year-old mechanic, Robin Mangru, who had been reported missing, was found at around 21:30 hrs last night in the bottom flat of a house at ‘CC' Eccles, East Bank Demerara.

Sources said that Mangru's body, which bore several gunshot wounds, was wrapped in a blanket in the bathroom area of the house.

The building is said to be the home of a deportee who cannot be located.

Residents said that they heard about seven gunshots coming from the house at around 23:30 hrs Thursday night. They said that after the gunfire stopped, a white car came out of the driveway. The vehicle then sped north out of Eccles.

Up to press time, police were still scouring the scene and Mangru's body had still not been removed.

According to the slain man's mother, Mangru left home at around 23:00 hrs Thursday on a bicycle, after receiving a phone call.

The woman said that she and her husband had pleaded with their son not to go out at that late hour.

However, she said that her son ignored their pleas and rode out of the yard on a bike that he had borrowed from a watchman.

The woman said that she became worried when he failed to return home.

She said that at around 05:00 hrs yesterday, a maid from the Eccles house in which Mangru was eventually found, visited the Mangrus and asked about the whereabouts of their son.

The missing man's parents followed the maid to the deportee's house, where they spotted the bicycle that their son had borrowed. It was outside the building.

Kaieteur News understands that a report on the missing man was made to the police.

At around 21:30 hrs last night, the police returned to the house and, after calling and getting no response, forced open the door to the bottom flat. Inside they found Mangru's body.
