A 29-year-old resident of Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was on Tuesday night abducted from in front of his home by three men in a white car. Krishna Lakeram, of 16 Friendship, who is a labourer and farmer, was said to have been forced into a car with licence plates, PFF 2888, at around 7 pm on Tuesday. The men, according to reports, have made no demands for money nor have they made any contact with the relatives. According to the man's mother, Sumintra Persaud, two men forced him into the car while one of them sat at the wheel. "They put him in the back seat," she said, adding that one of them was "fine and tall" while the other was "short." She said that as the men took her son, she shouted to them, "Weh you carry he? Weh you carry he?" Family members told Stabroek News from the home in Friendship last night that they spent the day searching many of the police stations, including those on the East Bank and the Brickdam Station to no avail. "We checked all over but there is no sign of him," a relative said. They said that police ranks visited the home and the scene where thekidnapping occurred and advised the parents to visit the Grove Police Station to make a report. The father, Lakeram Rambarose, who works as a watchman, said that a police rank told him that he could not trace the registration number, an indication that the plates might have been false. Krishna's mother and father are appealing for his safe return. "He did not have any story with anyone, he drinks sometimes but that is all. He is very kind," the father said. According to the parents, Krishna is an only child who is unmarried and has no children. "We have to hope and pray that nothing happens to him," one relative said. Several weeks ago an East Coast Demerara taxi driver Vivekanand Nandalall was kidnapped when he was on duty. A ransom was paid for his release but he had not been found up to now. (Johann Earle)
Lakeram's parents fear
worst nine days after his abduction "Over
a week now and we nah hear nothing since the men took him away; we
never see him again," said the elderly man. His
parents, with tears, yesterday visited the Guyana Chronicle and said
that they have searched and even made many visits to police stations
but to no avail. Krishna
Lakeram was allegedly taken by two men in a motorcar on November 11
in front of his home Security
personnel managed to record the number plate of the vehicle, which
has since been given to the police. According
to relatives, the men in the motorcar visited Lakeram's residence
the evening before they took him. "Dem
say dat me sons thief engine and other things from a boat which was
moored at the Friendship Dry Dock Wharf (a short distance from where
Persaud resides) and they come fuh he," said the man. Lakeram's
father said that the men asked him where his sons were, and he told
them that they are at work in the back dam, the men told him that
they would return later for his sons. He
however, did not take the incident seriously because he told the men
that his sons were not thieves, they work as farmer/labourer in the
back lands. To
date although the owner of the vessel was identified and visited by
the missing man's family, he denied knowledge of the incident but
said that some items was missing from his boat which includes an
engine. The
police were also informed about the incident but have failed to
affect any arrest so far. The
desperate family also tried to contact several top ranking officials
from the Guyana Police Force yesterday but they were unavailable, in
the end they made a television appearance on Channel Six pleading
fro their son's safe return. Sumintra
Persaud, the missing man's mother said that she has two other
children from a previous relationship and she has since learned that
her son is also wanted for the theft. According
to a well-placed source, the men in the car also visited Persaud's
son residence in Kitty, shortly after visiting Persaud's Friendship
home. The
source told the Guyana Chronicle that Lakeram was badly wounded last
time he was seen alive but his whereabouts now is unknown since his
abductors took him to another location. "We
hoping and praying that he come back to us alive, we are poor people
and yet the police ain't telling us anything, if we had money they
woulda done find he already," cried a close relative yesterday
during an interview. When contacted yesterday for a comment Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. David Ramnarine said that there is no new information. Thursday, NOVEMBER 20, 2003 |
