The police at the Turkeyen Police Station have detained the driver of a car that transported two men who allegedly robbed a student of the University of Guyana of cash and a cellular phone on the campus yesterday.
Kaieteur News understands that the driver of the car was nabbed in the city
after police were provided with the licence number of the getaway vehicle used
in the robbery.
However, the driver is claiming that he was hired by the two perpetrators whom
he thought were students of the university and was unaware that the men had
committed a robbery since he was sitting in his car at a distance from where the
incident took place.
UNSOLVED Crime
According to reports, the student was in his car when the two men pounced on
him and after choking him, took away $70,000 and his cellular phone.
Apparently no one saw the incident or they were unaware that a robbery was
taking place on the campus.
The victim could not say if the men were carrying a weapon.
After the men left, the student reported the matter and gave police a
description of the getaway car.
The two perpetrators have not yet been arrested.
