Disappearance of the vehicle’s battery, wheel spanner and jack

RIGHT PEEVED: Abdool Rafeek and his father, Scrata Dookhoo yesterday.
THE owners of a truck are contemplating their next move following the disappearance of the vehicle’s battery, wheel spanner and jack yesterday morning about a stone’s throw away from the Sparendaam Police Station, on the lower East Coast.

Truck driver, Abdool Rafeek, 47, of Logwood, Enmore, also on the East Coast Demerara told the Guyana Chronicle that he was on his way to Ogle, about a mile away due west, around 08:00hrs when he was pulled over by a policeman.

He said he was asked by the rank to disembark the truck and produce his documents, some of which he did not have on his person. This being the case, Rafeek said he was subsequently asked to leave his truck where it was and accompany the policeman, who had a vehicle at his disposal, to the Sparendaam Police Station, which he did.

On arrival at the station, Rafeek said he was asked to sit on a bench there while awaiting his father, Scrata Dookhoo, who was bringing the relevant documents. The police having been satisfied that his documents were indeed in order, Rafeek said he was released.

It was upon his return to truck that he discovered that the articles were missing, which caused him to have to go to the station again, this time to report what had transpired. But guess what? The officers turned him away, he said.

Nonplussed by this unfortunate turn of events, Rafeek asked of no one in particular: “Who is going to replace the missing parts of my truck? And how will I get it to start?”

The last we heard is that he has since consulted a lawyer and may take private action.

When contacted yesterday, ranks at the Sparendaam Police Station refused to comment on the matter.
