A 23-year-old labourer of Abary Creek has been missing since June 3 and while the mother of his two children is still hopeful that he will turn up alive she fears that foul play has befallen him.

Mohan Dhiram, originally of Blairmont, West Bank Berbice had left the creek at around 6 am that day to go to Bush Lot to uplift his payment from his employer when he disappeared.

His reputed wife of four years, Rita Jairam, 22, told this newspaper that she hopes that her husband is still alive and that he would return home safely. She said he had never stayed away from home and she became worried when he did not return after two days.
She then decided to check with family members to see if he may have gone there but they too were surprised that he had been missing. She made a report to the Fort Wellington Police Station and ranks informed her that if her husband returns home “and if he alright he should report to the station.”
The woman said the officers informed her that they have contacted all the stations about the man’s disappearance and that they would be on the “lookout.”
However, Jairam said even though she is worried sick, no search was carried out for her husband as she is “poor” and does not have any money to do so.
She also did not have a photograph of him for publication. She is just hoping that if he is alive he would return home.
Dhiram was employed with a cattle farmer of Bush Lot who owns a ranch in the creek. He was living with his family at a house in the creek belonging to the farmer.
Another resident of Bush Lot told this newspaper that Dhiram also helped to take care of a few of his cows in the creek. He said the day when he came out he collected some money from him and left.
Later that evening he said he was on his way to church when he noticed the man drinking at a Chinese Restaurant at Bush Lot with another resident. Jairam went to the resident’s house and questioned him and the man told her that he went home and left her husband at the restaurant and did not know anything about him.
She said the day she came out of the creek to inquire about him a man told her they were looking for him because he came out with a horse belonging to the man.
The man told her if he found him he would “beat” him but a few days later the man met her and told her he found the horse back.
The woman also recalled that her husband had a problem with a farmer whose cows destroyed his kitchen garden. She said one of the farmer’s employees who her husband knew well, called him out of his house one night to “tell him something.”
She said he went out to meet the man who whipped out a cutlass and “fire a chop” at him. He barred the chop and the cutlass connected with his hand.
According to her when the man’s employer visited the creek later she complained to him about what his worker had done. Instead of giving her satisfaction she said the man became verbally abusive and threatened to kill “all awe” [her family].
She said she told her husband to make a report to the station about the chopping and the threat but he never bothered with her.
The woman has two children with Dhiram, four-year-old Amar and nine-month-old Ronald. She also has a seven-year-old son, Imran from a different relationship and is worried about how she would be able to take care of them.
